New 2022 BMW i4| What We Know So Far!

2022 BMW i4 Overview BMW is poised to showcase its next electric vehicle after revealing its first new electric vehicle in over a decade, the iX SUV.

The i4 electric sedan is BMW’s electrified 4 Series, with a range of up to 300 miles and a starting price of $55,400 for the base model.

While the eDrive40 and the higher-performance M50 have been given starting costs, the full list of standard and optional features has yet to be released.

The i4 is based on BMW’s eDrive EV platform, which comprises electric motors, power electronics, a charging system, and a high-voltage battery in its fifth iteration.

It’s built on the same platform as the iX. It has a scalable architecture that can handle vehicles of various sizes and functions.

The two electric vehicles are the tip of BMW’s delayed effort to reclaim its early sales success.

BMW enthusiasts have been upset that the i3 and i8 have never had successors in the years after their introduction.

The fundamental electric technology, however, is being improved by the corporation.

Now, the iX and i4 sedans will be powered by next-gen technology and the iX3 from China.

“The choice to launch three months early was obvious,” said BMW CEO Oliver Zipse, who also mentioned how the company is “picking up the pace” in terms of electrification.

Here are the major highlights of the 2022 BMW i4:

  • Later, a smaller battery variant with rear-wheel drive will be available.
  • The design of the BMW i4 is comparable to that of the 4 Series.
  • The claimed time from 0-100 kilometers per hour is four seconds.
  • The 80-kilowatt-hour battery is touted to have a range of 590 kilometers.

The final 2022 BMW i4 retains the design of last year’s production-previewing concept and is visibly linked to the combustion-engine 4 Series.

The sleek and taut surfaces on the i4 designed to give it class-leading aerodynamic efficiency.

The slim headlamp treatment, heavily curved roofline, high-set notchback rear end, and OLED taillights are all shared by the i4.

Powertrains & Range

Depending on the model, the 2022 BMW i4 will feed electrons to one or two electric motors.

The eDrive40 has a single rear-axle motor that produces 335 horsepower.

According to the manufacturer, this arrangement accelerates from zero to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, and it’s likely to have high speeds of more than 200 kph.

The M50 has electric motors on each axle, creates 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque, and enabling all-wheel drive.

Acceleration times will be reduced due to the increased power, with a claimed time of 3.9 seconds from zero to 60 mph.

The rear-drive i4 comes standard with 18-inch rims, with 19-inches available as an option.

The 2022 BMW i4 is built on a modified version of the CLAR platform, which underpins the existing 3 Series and 4 Series and can accommodate battery packs with a capacity of up to 80 kWh.

As with the bigger iX, an entry-level rear-wheel-drive option with a smaller battery will be available.

According to BMW, the single-motor, rear-drive BMW i4 eDrive40 will be able to go up to 300 miles on a single charge.

200-kilowatt charging capacity will be acquired by the i4s, which will allow it to go a further 90 miles in just 10 minutes.

The i4 can recharge its battery from 0-100 % in less than 8 hours using the Level 2 (up to 11 kW) onboard charger.

The EPA hasn’t issued fuel economy or range figures for the i4, so we’ll have to rely on BMW’s claims.

When we acquire an i4, we’ll put it through its paces on our 75-mph highway route, part of our thorough testing protocol, to see how efficient it is in real life.

We can expect the interior to be luxuriously equipped, with rose gold decor, white leather upholstery, and light wood trim among the options.

We know the car will be based on the same platform as the company’s 3-series sedan, so the interior will most likely be just as roomy.

The i4 has a more dramatic roofline than the 3, with a four-door coupe body shape and what looks to be a huge back liftgate that opens to show a large cargo compartment similar to that of the BMW 4-series Gran Coupe.

The 202 BMW i4 will be powered by BMW’s new eighth-generation iDrive operating system.

It is shared with the iX flagship and enables over-the-air updates and a significant reduction in the number of physical controls in the interior, even though it retains the iconic rotary knob used on every iteration of iDrive since its debut 20 years ago.

The 2022 BMW i4 will be the first vehicle to develop the company’s updated infotainment system and networking features.

It will be controlled via a 14.9-inch touchscreen merged with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel on a large curved display on the dashboard and dubbed iDrive 8.

The system will have enhanced voice commands, various popular functions, and a rotary controller on the center console.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 5G mobile capability are among them.
