2024 Ford Mustang GT3 Race Car- Overview

In the realm of GT3 racing, there’s more good news following Toyota’s release of the GR GT3 Concept a few weeks ago. Ford has also announced an all-new Mustang GT3 car, and a factory-backed IMSA GTD Pro works squad operated by Canadian companies and project collaborators Multimatic.

According to Ford Performance, the Mustang will be ready to race at the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2024. Oh, and it’ll be available as a customer car the following year.

So is anyone interested in splitting the bill with TG?

As the world prepares for the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2022, Ford provides an intriguing glimpse into its racing future.
A Mustang GT3 is in the works, with plans to compete in the IMSA racing series in 2024.

The automobile is only seen in a single shot, but with 2024 marked as its racing debut, chances are it will be built on the next-generation pony car.

“We’re excited to introduce the GT3 version of the Mustang to compete head-to-head against some of the world’s best automakers,” said Ford Performance Motorsports Global Director Mark Rushbrook.

“Company is all set to take Mustang to the next level of global performance, with 58 years of worldwide endurance racing heritage, including NASCAR and Australian Supercars today.”

Ford relies on its own Ford Performance team and long-time partner Multimatic to bring a new Mustang GT3 to life.

M-Sport in the United Kingdom has also agreed to produce the race car’s naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8.
The race-spec engine will transfer power to the back wheels via a rear-mounted transaxle, and the vehicle will be suspended at all four corners by a bespoke Short-Long Arm suspension.

Ford will run two GT3 cars in the IMSA series with factory support. In addition, the business will build 20 vehicles for customer race teams in the first two years to achieve homologation standards.

Ford is continuing its Mustang GT4 racing program for customers, with intentions to introduce a new car for the 2023 racing season, in addition to the new GT3 venture.

“It’s also critical for us to continue to support the Mustang GT4 project,” Rushbrook stated. “With the current Mustang GT4, we’ve had a lot of success both here and in Europe, and we’re excited to be able to give our customers a fresh new car for competition in the GT4 category starting next season.

So shortly, we’ll have more to say about it.” The new race-spec GT4 has been available since 2016, just a few years after the sixth-generation Mustang was introduced.

As a result, a new GT4 car for 2023 appears to be based on the seventh-generation model.
That means the next-generation Mustang may be on the market in as little as a year.
