Carmichael & Cervantes Testing Triumph Prototypes – Overview

Triumph Motorcycles announced its entry into the off-road market in July 2021 with the development of a line of motocross and dual-sport machines.

It also announced the addition of Ricky Carmichael, widely regarded as the greatest motocross racer of all time, and Iván Cervantes, a four-time Enduro world champion.

The involvement of two of the off-road world’s biggest names in progress exhibit that the British company was significant about dirt and had hit the ground running.

Triumph couldn’t have chosen two more qualified off-road riders to aid in the development of its motocross and dual-sport machines.

Carmichael, the GOAT of off-road riding, won AMA Motocross championships with Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki, amassing 162 wins across all classes and competing on three Motocross des Nations winning teams.

Cervantes won five Spanish motocross titles before starting his FIM World Enduro Championship career.

He was a two-time E1 and E3 champion before retiring in 2016. He then competed in the Dakar Rally for KTM in 2016 and 2018.

Last year, Triumph CEO Nick Bloor stated, “Today’s announcement ushers in a new chapter for the Triumph brand, which everyone at Triumph is ecstatic to be a part of.”

We are fully committed to making a long-term impact in this highly competitive and demanding world, with the single-minded goal of delivering a winning motorcycle lineup for a whole new generation of Triumph riders.”

Since then, there has been less info or news on the projects’ progress. It will take time to see results from entering an entirely new market segment, and Triumph will undoubtedly want to get it right the first time.

To whet Triumph fans’ appetites for more information, the Hinckley company issued a press release stating that it is moving forward while increasing the suspense.

Triumph stated in the release that Carmichael and Cervantes recently spent a week in the United Kingdom with the Triumph motocross and dual sport development teams, participating in workshops and testing the latest prototypes to provide feedback to engineers.

“It’s been a pleasure to visit Triumph headquarters finally,” Carmichael said. “Meeting everyone in every department, seeing how everything works, and finally putting faces to the names of those I’ve been working with for so long.” I’ve been highly impressed with the team since my first test with them in the United States, and it’s great to see how far they’ve come.

“Watching the masterminds at work and seeing everyone’s devotion and motivation has been amazing.”

The sky’s the limit, and I’m convinced that everyone’s contributions to this project will reflect the Triumph brand’s high standards. It’s a thrilling moment to be a part of such an important endeavor.”

“This is a huge moment for me,” Cervantes said. “We’ve tested the bike a lot, but it was great to ride with Ricky in person, and it’s so fulfilling to see how glad he is with the setup we’ve created.” We’ve taken some significant steps and implemented some very beneficial changes, and I’m delighted with where we’ve arrived.

“I’ve been involved on this project for a long time with an amazing team who all have the same goal: to be competitive.” “I’m looking forward to it.”

“It was a amazing to have both Ricky and Iván with us for a full week and continue to benefit from their experience with developing our off-road prototypes fully,” Chief Product Officer Steve Sargent added.

“Having both legendary motorcycle racers collaborate on such an important stage of the bike’s development is invaluable.”

We’re all working toward the same goal: launching motorcycles that are 100 percent capable of winning, bringing something new and different to riders in both worlds, leveraging all of Triumph’s expertise and capability, and leveraging everything Ricky and Iván know about winning and developing bikes that deliver consistently race after race.”
