The Bentley Batur’s 729-HP W-12 engine is the final vehicle before EVs.

Bentley Mulliner Batur – Overview

Although it may sound strange, Bentley wants us to consider EVs while looking at the Batur, a limited-edition coupe shown at Monterey Car Week.

Here are the major highlights:

  • There will only be 18 examples of Bentley’s limited-edition Batur coupe, which is based on the Continental GT but features brand-new bodywork.
  • A 729-hp variation of Bentley’s durable W-12 engine powers the Batur.
  • This new-car introduction, as is customary these days, demonstrates the direction in which upcoming EV vehicles will take their designs.

A 729-hp W-12 engine powers the Batur.

Because although though delicious, sweet hydrocarbons still propel the Batur, it supposedly serves as a design demonstration for the British luxury brand’s upcoming first fully electric vehicle, which is scheduled to debut in 2025.

The Batur is based on the floorplan and mechanical setup of the current Continental GT below its entirely redesigned exterior.

Bentley’s customized Mulliner division will produce only 18, and all of them have already been reserved by customers.

None seemed deterred by the base price, which amounts to about $2 million at the current exchange rate.

At least a few of those clients reportedly already possess versions of Mulliner’s prior limited-edition Conti model, the roofless Bacalar from 2020.

Bentley was inspired to order more Baturs after the speedster quickly sold out of its even more constrained run of 12 vehicles. It appears likely that other ultra-exclusive variants will follow.

Bentley Mulliner Batur Body & Aesthetic

Like the Bacalar, Lake Batur, a 290-foot-deep crater lake on the Indonesian island of Bali, is the source of the Batur’s name.

So if you already know it, you can give yourself a geography point.

Using a reinvented style language that aims to mix elegance and the projection of force, a small team under the direction of Bentley’s recently hired director of design, Andreas Mindt, created the muscular aesthetic.

An image of a lion or tiger lying low in attack position in long grass is what the firm refers to as the “resting beast stance.”

The new teardrop headlight units are a radical departure for a name that has come to be associated with substantial circular lights, with the smaller apertures concealing three potent projector units.

At the same time, the enormous radiator grille on the Batur is a recognizable feature from existing Bentleys.

The Batur’s tall hood shows that even completely electric Bentleys maintain the brand’s recognizable cab-rearward stance.

In contrast to the Continental GT’s more angular features, the Batur’s rounded rump is softer and more organic.

The side profile is pleasingly suggestive of a muscle vehicle.

The only pieces that remain the same are the door mirrors since they have too many sensors to be economically feasible to produce new ones for such a small batch.

Bentley Mulliner Batur Interior

Bentley could not significantly alter safety-critical components like the positioning of airbags for such a short run.

Therefore the interior retains the fundamental dashboard design of the Conti.

Of course, it is finished with even more luxurious and rare materials, and customers can choose from an almost infinite palette of colors for the trim.

This choice is billed as a more environmentally friendly alternative to carbon fiber. In addition, a laser-etched sound wave of the W-12’s sound is present on the fascia.

Bentley Mulliner Batur Engine Specs

While the Batur is essentially a look-ahead vehicle, the 6.0-liter W-12 is unquestionably a relic of Bentley’s past.

Even in the official release, it is acknowledged that it is approaching its “twilight years,” yet it also calls this edition its final iteration.

The Continental GT Speed’s output has been increased by 79 horsepower to 729 horsepower thanks to a redesigned intake system, updated turbochargers, and recalibration.

Wheels & Suspension

The Batur’s chassis uses the W-12 GT’s air springs, adjustable dampers, and a 48-volt electromechanical anti-roll system.

Additionally, it comes standard with carbon-ceramic brakes, a torque-biasing rear differential, and 22-inch custom wheels.

Bentley Mulliner Batur Availability

According to reports, several Batur customers flew to Monterey to attend the launch and finish customizing their vehicles.

The launch is scheduled to begin in the middle of 2023.

So if you’re blaming yourself for missing out, you might want to visit your neighborhood Bentley dealer and grovel for a spot on the waiting list for the following limited run.
