Acura Precision EV Concept – Overview

Acura‘s first Precision Concept debuted in 2016 and offered a visual roadmap for every next model.

The lineup that is there today appears to be coherent as a result of keeping to that promise.

However, with the Acura Precision EV concept, that established look is now receiving a glow-up.

Here are the major highlights:

  • Future Acura cars’ stylistic cues can be seen in the Acura Precision EV Concept.
  • It is a development of the electrification-focused 2016 Precision Concept design language.
  • The dual-mode cockpit is built for circumstances involving both performance and autonomous driving.

Much of the style seen here will soon debut on an all-electric Acura SUV that will use GM’s Ultium battery platform and go into production as a 2024 model.

The Precision EV Concept‘s overarching design objective is to illustrate the adaptability of an EV future by reinterpreting existing Acura aesthetic cues rather than completely redesigning them.

On the front fascia, for example, this is more obvious. A dazzling light surrounds an illuminated variation of the well-known pentagon-shaped grille.

Although the new Precision concept is shaped like an SUV rather than a sedan like the previous one, Acura promises that future aesthetic cues will easily transition to other body styles.

The chiseled lines of high-end powerboats are claimed to have inspired Acura designers as they developed this motif.

We enjoy the broad character line that is suggestive of the tumblehome of a V-shaped hull.

It appears best from the front three-quarters, where it smoothly curves up to the A-pillar before transforming into a strong crease along the hood.

The free-floating chrome strip on top of the glass, whose existence seems unplanned, is less aesthetically pleasing.

A set of light clusters can be seen at both ends of the vehicle by lowering the prow.

They cast a messy array of shapes, the pattern of which is repeated in the 23-inch wheels’ spokes.

The theme’s name, “Particle Glitch,” by Acura, conjures up pictures of circuitry gone wrong.

We think the name is a whimsical yet strange decision for an idea that is so tech-focused.

Given that these lower detailing components would be buried beneath the waterline of a powerboat, perhaps this is Acura’s subtly ingenious way of carrying on the nautical theme.

Acura’s next-generation cabin technology is displayed inside the cockpit with a curved, transparent touchscreen on top of the dashboard and a smaller fine display in front of the driver.

In addition, a row of dials and knobs can be found at the hub of a steering wheel with a yoke design.

Acura designed two unique cockpit experiences that cater to the opposite ends of the performance and autonomy spectrum because electrification’s future implies improved performance and the promise of autonomous driving.

Instinctive Drive surrounds the area in a cacophony of red lighting and rapid engine noises to bring out your inner F1 champion.

The pedals and steering wheel retract in “Spiritual Lounge,” the screens turn entirely translucent, and the seats recline.

Soothing aromas and noises fill the cabin as passengers are transported to their destination, and oceanic images dreamily project onto the surfaces.

Principal designer Gypsy Modina discussed constructing a setting that could immerse all five senses when creating this split personality, but we’re intrigued by how taste entered the picture.

It might be the seats’ usage of 100% biomass leather, which frankly did look quite enticing.

The inside is not only a study in extremes but also a look at eco-friendly materials that nonetheless have a high-end feel.

There is extensive use of recycled metal and plastic in the cockpit.

The Precision EV Concept’s exterior design strongly suggests a roadgoing model shortly, even though many interior elements are unlikely to be produced anytime soon.

What is the Acura Precision concept?

The Acura Precision Concept debuted at the Detroit Auto Show in 2016. It was a modern-looking four-door that sought to revitalize the Acura nameplate. It had a sporty and sophisticated appearance thanks to its crisp body lines, low-slung roof, long wheelbase, and broad stance.

Does Toyota own Acura?

Yes, it is the answer. The main business, Honda, introduced Acura in 1986. Honda’s premium line was initially marketed in the United States under Channel II.
