VW ID4 production begins in the United States in 2023.
2023 Volkswagen ID4 – Overview
Models of the Volkswagen ID4 have started to leave the Chattanooga, Tennessee, assembly plant and will begin to appear in showrooms in October.
Here are the major highlights:
- Volkswagen‘s facility in Chattanooga, Tennessee, began producing the ID.4.
- The ID.4 models built in 2023 will differ slightly from those currently made in Europe.
- Later this year, a less expensive ID.4 with a smaller battery pack will be available.
Although it was first sold here for the 2021 model year, the electric SUV was subsequently imported from VW’s facility in Germany.
As a point of comparison, VW has only sold 4415 ID.4s on American soil through the first half of this year and will move 16,742 units in 2021.
In addition, VW claims it plans to increase manufacturing in the U.S. to 7000 cars per month by the end of the year.
A few alterations will also be made between the 2023 Volkswagen ID4 built in the United States and the vehicle built in Europe.
According to VW, the centre console has been redesigned, and the 77.0-kWh battery will be provided by SK Innovation in Georgia, a different U.S.-based supplier.
Additionally, some interior components will come from American vendors.
By the end of the year, a new entry-level model will also be available with a smaller battery pack, rear-wheel drive, and a lower starting price than the $35,000 VW had initially predicted.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID4 model prices will be made public the following week.
