2023 Polestar 2 – Overview

The Polestar 2 will receive updates for the 2023 model year, including new design components, an improved heat pump, and new technology to make the two more environmentally friendly.

Here are the major highlights:

  • Two new colors, different wheel styles, and new interior materials are all available for the 2023 Polestar 2.
  • Polestar claims that the new heat pump on the 2 enhances real-world range.
  • Polestar also employs blockchain technology to track metals such as cobalt, mica, and aluminum, ensuring that they are ethically sourced and processed with renewable energy.

In addition, Polestar revised the 2 for 2022, increasing the single-motor model’s EPA-estimated range to 270 miles and adding 68 horsepower to the dual-motor version.

With software updates, the dual-motor model now has an extra 11 miles range for 2023, giving it 260 miles.

Body & Aesthetic, Battery

2 different exterior colors will be available for the Polestar 2 in 2023.

The first, Space, is a metallic black, while the second, Jupiter, is a gold-grey with a red flake.

These new colors can be combined with new wheel designs for the base 19-inch and optional 20-inch wheels. Inside, a new Zinc grey tone of Nappa leather is offered and a unique Light Ash accent.

Polestar has teamed up with Circulor, a software startup that uses blockchain technology to track where Polestar buys cobalt and mica, two critical minerals used in electric vehicle batteries.

Polestar claims that the collaboration enables them to verify that the minerals are sourced ethically from mining and production.

Due to the technology, Polestar has also switched to aluminum suppliers that use renewable energy.

Polestar states that the carbon footprint of the aluminum tray that holds the 2’s battery has been halved by doing so.

Polestar is testing similar emissions reductions with its aluminum wheels, with the wheels expected to start saving carbon emissions in the mid-year.

Polestar further claims that the temperature range for the mechanical heat pump included in the Plus package has been improved to between 20 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

In addition, Polestar claims that by increasing the real-world range in “adverse conditions,” the pump, which was previously optimized for temperatures between 40 and 60 degrees, can help improve the real-world range.

At this time, it’s unknown whether the car’s EPA-rated range will be changed due to these alterations.

Additionally, Polestar claims that existing Polestar 2 cars will receive a free heat pump upgrade via an over-the-air update.

Polestar has also upgraded the interior particulate sensor and incorporated a sophisticated cabin filter, which is now paired with an in-car app to quantify the improvement in-cabin air quality vs. the outside world.

Polestar has also included a retractable sunshade for 2s with a panoramic glass roof.

Date of Launch & Price

By 2023, the price has risen marginally. The single-motor version costs $49,800, while the dual-motor version costs $53,300.

The Performance Pack, which adds 68 hp and 15 pound-feet of torque and is only available on the dual-motor, costs an additional $5500 and is only available on the Plus package.

The 2023 model will be delivered starting in September.
