2023 Lexus RZ450e – Overview

The Lexus RZ450e, that will be available in the United States in 2023, is the premium automaker’s first electric vehicle.

While it shares a base with the Toyota bZ4X, this Lexus EV outperforms its mainstream cousin in terms of performance and overall luxury.

Here are the major highlights:

  • The Lexus RZ450e, available in 2023, is the luxury brand’s first electric vehicle in the United States.
  • The RZ450e shares a base with the Toyota bZ4X, but it has higher power and a more luxurious cabin.
  • According to Lexus, the RZ450e’s dual electric motors produce roughly 300 horsepower and a 225-mile range.

Exterior Design

The RZ450e‘s sharply creased sheet metal, particularly its angular face, is the first thing that strikes you about it.

The lighting signature is similar to that of other Lexus models, and the grille has the brand’s iconic spindle design, yet there’s something new about it.

The surfaces are generally smooth for aerodynamic reasons, and Lexus claims that the RZ450e’s design language foreshadows future EV vehicles.

Battery Capacity & Range

The RZ450e, like the bZ4X, is built on Toyota’s e-TNGA platform, which was developed in collaboration with Subaru. Lexus names its all-wheel-drive, dual-electric-motor powertrain Direct4.

The front motor is rated at 201 horsepower, while the rear engine is rated at 107 horses. Therefore their combined output should be around 300 horses.

That’s a lot more power than the bZ4X’s 214 horsepower. A battery pack is another component shared by the electrified Lexus and Toyota.

The RZ450e’s battery has a usable capacity of around 65.0 kWh, which Lexus says will provide about 225 miles of range per charge.

However, the company hasn’t said anything regarding the peak charging rate or the expected charging time.

Interior Design

The RZ450e appears to cater to a more affluent clientele than its Toyota, cousin on the inside.

The cabin is reported to be designed with a minimalist aesthetic in mind and lined with high-end materials.

While Lexus has stated that the RZ450e will be available with a yoke-style steering wheel, these images only show the regular circular wheel.

The infotainment system, which uses the same new software as the Lexus NX and LX vehicles, is controlled via a 14.0-inch touchscreen.

A panoramic sunroof with a dimming function and a slew of driver-assistance features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist, are standard on the RZ450e.

A head-up display and a technology that allows drivers to parallel park the vehicle are more appealing features remotely.

Price & Launch Date

The price of the 2023 Lexus RZ450e has yet to be disclosed, but we estimate it to start around $50,000 when it goes on sale near the end of the year.
