2023 Honda HRV – Overview

The HR-V, Honda’s smallest SUV, is approaching its second generation, and the new 2023 HR-V will have some significant upgrades.

These are the initial images of the latest vehicle sold in the United States, more potent than the previous model and different from the smaller, hybrid-only Europe-market model shown last year.

Here are the major highlights:

  • Honda has disclosed the first images of the revised HR-V for 2023.
  • The new model is larger and has a longer wheelbase than the previous generation. Its platform is currently shared with the Civic.
  • More information will be released soon, and the new HR-V is expected to hit dealerships in the United States this summer.

The HR-V previously shared a platform with the now-defunct Fit hatchback, but Honda claims the new subcompact SUV will be based on the Civic.

It has a longer wheelbase than before, and the rear suspension is now independent.

The only thing Honda says about the engine is that it will be “more responsive,” so we’re guessing it’ll be the Civic’s 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four, which will replace the HR-141-hp V’s 1.8-litre inline-four.

The HR-base V’s engine could be the naturally aspirated 158-hp 2.0-liter inline-four from the Civic’s lower trim levels.

Front-wheel drive will almost certainly be standard, with all-wheel drive as an option, and a CVT automatic transmission will almost certainly be the only transmission option.

A hybrid HR-V is also expected to enter the lineup, though it may arrive later than the gas-only model.

Honda hasn’t released any photographs or details on the HR interior, V’s, and we’re curious how the new platform will affect the packaging.

Because the gasoline tank was positioned behind the front seats, the previous HR-V, like the Fit, had a surprisingly low cargo floor.

So we’re not sure if the highly adjustable rear seat from the previous HR-V, which could fold in various configurations, will be carried over to the new model.

The current model’s LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L trim levels are anticipated.

Honda has published a video showcasing the new HR-V in various colors, including red, grey, silver, black, and white.

Pricing is expected to jump somewhat from the current HR-$23,095 V’s base price, with fully loaded AWD vehicles costing over $30,000.

More details will be released in the following months, with the 2023 HR-V on sale in the summer.
