2023 Dodge Hornet – Overview
Dodge is entering a new age. The Charger and Challenger, two popular V-8-powered vehicles with a throwback theme, have been crucial to the brand’s survival for at least the last ten years.
Here are the major highlights:
- The 2023 Dodge Hornet is a brand-new subcompact SUV featuring a performance-oriented plug-in hybrid model.
- A gas-only Hornet is also available with comparable features and options, costing roughly $30,000.
- The Hornet is in front when the PHEV debuts at dealers next spring, with prices starting at roughly $40,000. Dodge is about to enter a new “electrifed performance” age.
It even had a 710-hp Durango with an estimated combined fuel economy of 13 mpg.
The choice is being made as the company turns sharply to the left to move toward an electrified future that will start with the new 2023 Dodge Hornet.
2023 Dodge Hornet Latest Updates:
Everything. Dodge touts the Hornet as a performance-focused alternative, even though it has the same body design, powertrain options, chassis, and mechanicals as the 2023 Alfa Romeo Tonale.
The smallest Dodge adopts the brand’s bloated muscle car styling with hood vents and a broad, low rectangular grille with a high brow housing LED headlights and running lights.
The body adopts the sturdy slabs of other Dodge cars, leaving design flourishes to the selection of wheels.
Because the Dodge brand name cannot be located on the exterior of the Hornet, it works out nicely that a red full-length light square captures the Dodge DNA in the back.
The Blacktop option adds gloss black components, such as 18-inch black alloy wheels, to the regular positions.
With the Track Pack, they are upgraded to 20-inch wheels with red Brembo front brake callipers.
Dodge’s Fresh Track
The Hornet is a small SUV similar to the Alfa Romeo Tonale in its platform and other components.
It has a wheelbase of 103.8 inches, is 178 inches long, and can reach a height of 63.8 inches.
It’s also Dodge’s first completely new model since the short-lived Dart compact sedan, which was available from 2012 to 2016.
The Hornet is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid vehicle, but Dodge highlights the new hybrid’s performance rather than emphasizing its fuel economy.
CEO Tim Kuniskis even marketed the Hornet as “the first electrified performance vehicle from Dodge.”
Dodge wants to reveal a concept version of its electric muscle car this week, so don’t fear that all its future performance cars will be hybrid crossovers.
So it’s not entirely eroding from its roots.
Additionally, the 2023 Hornet has several basic performance features that are not specific to the plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Along with the PHEV, a standard nonhybrid variant is available with a turbocharged gasoline engine and many of the same features and choices.
Differences in Engines and transmissions (2023 Dodge Hornet hp)
The starting point is the Hornet GT. It has a 2.0-litre inline-four turbocharged engine that generates 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque.
An automated transmission with nine speeds is paired with the engine.
According to Dodge, the GT will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 140 mph.
The plug-in hybrid is the Hornet R/T. It has a 1.3-litre inline-four turbocharged engine, a six-speed automated transmission, and a 121-hp electric motor on the rear axle.
The overall system output is 383 pound-feet of torque and 288 horsepower.
Additionally, it has a “PowerStop” function that provides an additional 25 horsepower and immediate torque for bursts of 15 seconds.
Despite having a lower top speed of 128 mph, it should be faster than the nonhybrid model.
According to Dodge, the PHEV will reach 60 mph from 0 mph in 6.1 seconds.
For comparison, a 250-horsepower Mazda CX-30 that was tested reached 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.
The lithium-ion battery pack in the Hornet R/T has a 12.0-kWh usable capacity, and Dodge believes that a Level 2 connection can recharge the battery in around 2.5 hours using the 7.2-kW onboard charger.
Although it is said to have a driving range of about 30 miles on electricity alone, the EPA ratings for either powertrain have not yet been made public.
Dodge claims to have several best-in-class performance features, but until we test it, we can’t confirm that.
MacPherson struts and a three-link rear suspension make up the utterly independent suspension.
Both models’ suspensions can be stiffened using dual-stage shocks that are available.
According to Dodge, a 52/48 weight distribution and increased body stiffness will result in more sporty handling than the competitors.
2023 Dodge Hornet Design & Aesthetic
The Hornet’s relationship with the Tonale is clear from the outside. Both were created in Italy.
The massive heat extractors on the hood of the Dodge, which are evocative of those on more muscular versions, are the most noticeable design change.
The element that looks like a mail slot and separates the upper and lower grilles is also seen on other Dodges, focusing on performance.
The Hornet’s look is further distinguished by its small headlights, upside-down boomerang accent lights, and full-width taillights.
The Blacktop option, which comes with gloss-black exterior emblems and mirror caps along with black 18-inch wheels, is available for both the GT and R/T.
2023 Dodge Hornet Interior
The 2023 Dodge Hornet dashboard cants the controls to the left to put the driver first.
The steering wheel has a flat bottom, shift paddles, and a button to choose between drive modes.
Each model includes a 10.3-inch infotainment screen with Uconnect5 software and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are just two of the system’s many features.
Selecting the GT Plus or R/T Plus trims adds leather upholstery available in red to the base inside, made up of black cloth with red contrast stitching.
Additionally, these higher trims feature a 465-watt, 14-speaker Harman Kardon sound system and wireless smartphone charging.
2023 Dodge Hornet Safety Features
Choosing the Tech Pack makes adaptive cruise control, parking assistance, and other features available.
Dodge outfits the 2023 Hornet with standard driver-assist features to reduce or prevent collisions during routine driving.
These features include active lane control, blind-spot monitors, rear parking sensors, and standard automated emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection.
In addition, adaptive cruise control and related highway driving capabilities are offered as part of a Tech Pack.
Dodge Hornet 2023 Price
The Hornet GT costs between $29,995 and $34,995 with standard AWD.
Although it costs more than the base versions of the competition, the Hornet is just as well-equipped as many of the top vehicles in its class.
A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.3-inch touchscreen running the most current infotainment system from the manufacturer, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay/Amazon Alexa connectivity, and wireless smartphone charging are all included in the standard tech package in addition to the driver assistance features.
One of the better-operating systems today supports two phone profiles at once, allowing you to utilize one for calls or navigation and the other for multimedia.
On 17-inch alloy wheels, it moves.
On Plus versions, options include:
- Leather upholstery.
- 14-speaker Harman Kardon audio.
- A red leather option.
- Heated seats and steering wheels.

Dodge Hornet 2023 Release Date
The GT variant accepts orders and won’t arrive at dealers until December.
Although Dodge hasn’t specified a release date, the R/T won’t be in dealerships until sometime in the spring.
