The BMW i7 will bring the 7-Series into the electric in 2023.

2023 BMW i7 – Overview

The BMW 7-series is a staple of the brand’s luxury sedan portfolio, and the new seventh-generation model has gone all-in on modern technologies.

The i7 is the first electric 7-series, with two electric motors, 536 horsepower, and a driving range of roughly 300 miles per charge.

Here are the major highlights:

  • BMW has revealed the powertrain, technology features, and interior of its electric i7 premium sedan, which will be available in 2023.
  • The i7 will come standard with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with 536 horsepower and a range of roughly 300 miles; the starting price is a hefty $120,295.
  • The new 7-series sedan combines a chassis, innovative driver-assistance technology, and a luxurious interior with the i7.

Battery Capacity & Range

The xDrive60 powertrain is comparable to that found in the BMW iX SUV, except that it is somewhat more powerful, and the 101.7-kWh battery pack is significantly smaller.

As a result, the i7’s acceleration is aggressive when cruising, and the cabin is exceptionally quiet.

At a D.C. fast-charging station, the i7’s battery can be recharged at a rate of up to 195 kilowatts, and BMW claims that a mere 10 minutes of charging time will net roughly 80 miles of driving range.

In addition, for the first three years of ownership, buyers of the i7 will enjoy complimentary charging sessions at Electrify America stations, many of which feature D.C. fast charging.

Interior Design

Despite having variable air suspension and rear-wheel steering, the i7 is not a sports car, and its interior is designed for relaxation.

The vast room is lined with elegant materials, and attention to detail is evident.

BMW has taken some styling chances with the interior, particularly with the digital dashboard, combining two 12.3-inch displays in a floating glass panel that serves as infotainment and gauge cluster.

The infotainment system is BMW’s latest iDrive 8, which debuted with the iX and is now available in the electric i4 sedan.

A glass panel that runs the length of the car and through the door panels also has integrated touch controls for the air vents, hazard lights, glove box release, and the driver’s option of ambient lighting.

Massage, heating, and cooling capabilities are available on plush seats.

In addition, the optional Executive Lounge package, which adds power-adjustable rear seats that recline, improves the experience for rear-seat passengers even further.

In this configuration, the right rear passenger also gets a footrest, and the front passenger seat moves forward for more legroom.

The optional Theater Screen back entertainment system is another standout feature onboard.

Passengers can utilise a gigantic 31.3-inch touchscreen display deployed from the i7’s roof to browse the web or stream Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or Amazon Prime material using the car’s cellular internet connection by employing a digital screen implanted into either of the back door panels.

A slew of driver-assistance systems is also available, including BMW’s new Highway Assistant, available only in North America at launch.

Like Cadillac’s Super Cruise and Ford’s BlueCruise, this option provides hands-free driving on U.S. and Canadian highways.
