2023 Audi R8 GT RWD Interior – Overview

The headline of Audi’s press release, “Goodbye to the V-10 Engine,” makes a passing allusion to the genuine loss.

Of course, the V-10’s demise is no surprise, but if this is the beginning of Audi’s farewell celebrations, can we anticipate any other limited-edition R8s for 2023?

Here are the major highlights:

  • Audi will sell 333 limited-edition RWD R8 GT cars in 2023.
  • In addition, the 5.2-litre V-10 in the Audi R8 GT RWD now has 602 horsepower instead of 562.
  • The electronic stability control now has seven levels, from most minor to extreme slide, to better control wheel slip from the rear axle.

Until now, all-wheel-drive models were the only way to get an Audi R8’s powerful engine.

However, Audi will offer a limited-edition R8 GT in 2023, a rear-wheel-drive coupe with a more potent 5.2-litre V-10 engine that produced 602 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque and was previously only offered in the Quattro.

According to Audi, the GT will reportedly reach 62 mph in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph.

In addition, with updated gearing for the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission to accommodate the higher peak speed and quicker gear changes, the R8’s shifts will also be more rapid.

Update for the special edition

Only 333 of the limited-edition R8 GT RWD coupes will be made available, and they can be distinguished from regular R8s by new R8 GT emblems on black badges.

The GT has a shiny carbon-fibre front splitter, side spats, rear scoops, a diffuser, and a high gooseneck rear wing for wind-tunnel-tested stability and more significant car-show cred.

If you look at the V-10 engine via the rear hatch, the logos and aero components are menacingly midnight-coloured, and the GT’s intake manifold is also black.

In essence, it resembles the ZL1 1LE of R8s.

Its interior is reminiscent of the original R8 GT, with a black and red colour scheme that includes red seatbelts.

Owners can track their position in the order line using a sequential special edition build number etched in the carbon-fibre centre console. In addition, floor mats and seats announce the GT’s special status.

Controlling

With the R8 GT, Audi is embracing the RWD R8’s sportier driving traits, which we appreciated.

The traction and stability control system can now be configured in one of seven different programmed curves, from more to less slippage, using the Torque Rear Mode on the rear axle.

For those last-minute drift decisions, a knob on the steering wheel controls this.

Putting jokes aside, altering the stability settings allows the R8 to accommodate different drivers or boost track confidence.

Brakes & Suspension

Compared to the R8 Coupe Performance RWD, the GT will weigh 44 pounds less.

This is partly attributable to the 20-inch lightweight forged wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tires.

In addition to sports seats and a performance sport suspension with a carbon-fibre reinforced plastic anti-roll bar, the GT comes standard with ceramic brakes.

The GT’s weight decrease is also made possible by the light bar and aluminium suspension parts.
