2022 Volkswagen ID 4- U.S Made Updates!
2022 Volkswagen ID 4 -Overview
The Volkswagen ID 4 represents the German automaker’s more aggressive electric vehicle push. It impresses with their day-to-day livability.
In 2020, we named the electric crossover one of the best cars we reviewed. It was also named World Car Of The Year for 2021.
Despite its critical acclaim, Volkswagen believes it can be improved further despite the ID.4’s youth. As a result, the company announced updates and upgrades that customers can expect for the ID 4 model years 2022 and 2023.
According to Car and Driver, these include a price increase, software, and hardware changes, and a few interior tweaks down the road.
Here are the significant highlights of 2022 Volkswagen ID 4:
- In addition, VW has revealed details about the 2022 ID 4 and the 2023 model, which will be produced in the United States later this year.
- The EPA range estimate for the 2022 model will be higher, and there will be a few new features.
- VW eventually plans to sell a less expensive version of the ID 4 with a smaller battery pack, starting around $35,000.
2022 ID 4
For the time being, prices for the 2022 VW ID 4 have risen by $765 across the board, ranging from $41,955 for a rear-wheel-drive Pro model to $50,135 for an all-wheel-drive Pro S model.
The 2021 ID 4’s 1st Edition trim is no longer available. Still, the powertrain remains unchanged, with RWD models powered by a single electric motor producing 201 hp and AWD models making 295 hp thanks to dual motors.
VW hasn’t specified how much more range the update will provide, but it claims that EPA figures will be more significant than the recent estimates of 240 to 260 miles per charge, depending on trim.
In addition, 2022 models get a more powerful onboard charger that can charge at 135 kilowatts, up from 125 kilowatts, at DC fast-charging stations.
Later this year, an over-the-air update will be released, including an auto-hold feature and a Plug & Charge system that will make charging at VW’s Electrify America fast-charging stations more accessible.
2023 ID 4
The most significant change for the 2023 model year is the ID.4’s assembly location. The US-spec models will be manufactured in Chatanooga, Tennessee, by the second or third quarter of 2022.
Volkswagen will also switch battery suppliers for the ID 4, replacing LG units with SK Innovation units. In addition, for the 2023 model year, an “American-style” center console will be installed.
Scott Keogh, president, and CEO of Volkswagen of America, also stated that a lower-cost base model would be added to the lineup in the future.
Keogh stated that VW will initially maintain the exact pricing for 2023 ID 4 models built in the United States, but a lower-priced ID 4 is in the works.
This entry-level model will have a smaller battery pack, which means it will have a shorter range, but it will cost around $35,000.
The company has not stated when this new trim will be available, but we believe it will be available in 2023.
