2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport- Now With More Rugged Looks.
2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport
The Toyota’s popular pickup, Hilux, wears the GR Sport name.
It prioritizes visual enhancements and mild chassis tweaks over the significant engine and chassis upgrades befitting a true Ford Ranger Raptor rival.
Here are the major highlights of the 2022 Toyota Hilux GR Sport:
- The Hilux shares the same platform as the Innova and Fortuner.
- Toyota’s 2.4-litre and 2.8-liter diesel engines are expected to power the vehicle.
- Inside, the Hilux’s components and features are expected to be similar to Fortuner.
Exterior Design

The Hilux now has a larger hexagonal grille, a more rugged bumper, and swept-back LED headlamps.
You will notice that the Hilux’s length is quite noticeable when viewed from the side. On the other hand, the back resembles most conventional pickup trucks.

The exterior features are power Adjustable Exterior Rear View Mirror, Front Fog Lights, Alloy Wheels, Centrally Mounted Fuel Tank, Side Stepper, Integrated Antenna, and Adjustable Headlights.
A red brake caliper, a slew of GR Sport badges, A black rear bumper, new black 18-inch alloy wheels, but only on the front axle, as the standard HiLux’s rear drum brakes are retained for the GR Sports flagship.
Interior Design

The Hilux might share many similar features and trim with the Fortuner on the inside.
However, the dashboard, steering wheel, and seats are expected to remain unchanged.
The Hilux is also likely to have an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The Hilux comes with a functional and comfortable interior, though second-row legroom won’t be as generous as Fortuner.
The interior upgrades are front sports seats with synthetic leather upholstery, GR headrest logos, and suede and red upper bolsters.
There is a red contrast stitching for the seats, GR-specific instrument dials, GR-branded steering wheel and armrests.
Driver Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Front Side Airbag, Child Safety Locks, Anti-Lock Braking System, EBD, Vehicle Stability Control System, Rear Seat Belts, Seat Belt Warning, Rear Camera, Parking Sensors, Crash Sensor, Front Impact Beams, Side Impact Beams, Door Ajar Warning, Engine Check Warning, and Traction Control are among the Model’s safety features.
Engine Specifications
The Hilux is built on the well-known IMV-2 platform, serving as the Innova Crysta and Fortuner foundation.
As a result, many components, such as the engine, gearbox, suspension components, and four-wheel-drive system, shall be offered.
The Hilux will come with a total displacement of 2393cc 4-cylinder Diesel engine that generates 148 Hp and a full torque of 400 Nm.
And a 2755cc 4-cylinder Diesel engine produces 201hp with 500 Nm of max torque.
It includes a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission gearbox.
While Japanese GR Sport variants will use the same 110kW/400Nm 2.4-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine as lesser models– and entry-level HiLux variants in Australia – if the GR Sport launch in Australia, expect the more powerful 150kW/500Nm 2.8-liter engine to be used.
