2022 Aston Martin V12 Speedster- Overview
The Aston Martin V12 Speedster from 2022 costs a million dollars and has no roof. For that matter, how about a windshield? It’s costly and inconvenient, and its layout, technology, and design don’t break any new ground.
It’s a toy for the wealthy, a 12-cylinder, twin-turbo plaything for those with plenty of cash to burn and a meaningless piece of vehicular silliness, but that isn’t a problem at all.
It truly depends on where you fall on the cynicism scale. This car is the most viscerally exhilarating, uncompromising car Aston Martin has ever made until the Valkyrie arrives.
The V12 Speedster has no roof, no roof option, and no roof mounting points. It doesn’t have any windows.
Instead of a windscreen, each of the twin cockpit parts is shielded from an oncoming hurricane by a glass aero ramp that appears to have been plucked from a First World War aircraft.
With a few exceptions, such as the Ford Model T, Volkswagen Beetle, Citroen 2CV, and the original Mini, the vehicle has rarely been about sensible transportation.
Suppose it was, instead of yearning for roaring 600-horsepower performance vehicles or jacked-up station wagons masquerading as manly off-roaders.
In that case, we’d all be driving practical hatchbacks or multi-function minivans. As a result, we should give the Aston Martin V12 Speedster a pass in 2022.
This Aston Martin isn’t supposed to alter the world; it’s just supposed to be enjoyable.
Aston Martin has wisely limited the car’s maximum speed to 186 mph or 299.3 kmph.
It hits 62 mph ( 99.7 kmph) in 3.5 seconds. As a result, a BMW M3 could pounce on it at the lights.
And, before you ask, the V12 Speedster is legal on the road.
Based On Idea
The CC100 Speedster concept that Aston Martin released in 2013 to commemorate its centennial was the inspiration for the 2022 V12 Speedster.
The “what if?” moment, according to Aston design director Miles Nurnberger, occurred during the development of the Vantage Roadster clay model. “When you make a convertible clay model, it doesn’t have a windshield,” Nurnberger explains.
“You don’t have a windshield on a convertible clay model,” Nurnberger explains. “We thought, ‘We should do another CC100,’ when we saw it.” The design team created a quarter-scale scale model that sat around the office for a time, catching the eye of various engineers and marketers who said, ‘Why not?'”

The 2022 Aston Martin V12 Speedster purposely departs from the DB11 and Vantage’s forward-thinking designs.
The V12 Speedster looks back, with tributes to classic Aston race cars like the 1953 DB3S, particularly around the car’s midsection, as well as the DBR1, which Carroll Shelby memorably drove.
The low-slung grille and sleek humps behind the seats are reminiscent of those old cars.

At the same time, the latter deceives eyes into reading the top of the front fender rather than the top of the hood.
In this trick, the rearview mirror mount is the magician’s silk: it’s where the visual switcheroo takes place.

If you’re driving with your open-face, bring a set of ski goggles and a helmet. Without some headwear, you shouldn’t even consider going for a pootle in your V12 Speedster.
The franken-structure of the 2022 Aston Martin V12 Speedster is the product of a desire to pack Aston Martin’s 5.2-liter 12-cylinder engine into a Vantage-sized car. “It would have been simple to base the Speedster on the DBS,” King explains, “but that wouldn’t have given us the correct proportions.”
The V-12 engine was a vital aspect of the design brief, according to design chief Nurnberger. “This vehicle was designed to provide an intensely visceral experience.
That’s why it’s a V-12 instead of a V-8.”
Aston Martin’s engineers and Nurnberger’s designers had a difficult time packaging the V-12.
The intake vent on the hood’s leading edge is reminiscent of the legendary Aston Martin DB4/DB5/DB6 road cars of the 1960s, but it’s not a design whim.
It skillfully hides the fact that the V-12 engine is more prolonged and taller than the V-8.
Whichever drive mode, the V12 Speedster’s driveline feels seamless and smooth, thanks to the engine and transmission upgrades.

The buttons and heating dials, for example, appear to have come from an Aston Martin Vantage, but there’s a lot that’s unique and special in here.
The door inserts are made of expensive-looking carbon fiber panels with waxy leather strapping puncturing them for the door releases.
Only when you sit in the 2022 Aston Martin V12 Speedster can you understand what’s going on.
The hood’s blank expanse stretches out before you, and the tops of the doors and the spar running through the middle of the cabin are shoulder height.
The car’s front corners are obscured.
Everything else is visible, though no windscreen means no A-pillars or header to obstruct the IMAX view down the road.
Because there are no buttons on the new doors to operate the non-existent windows and door mirrors, the latter’s adjustment controls have been moved to a touch panel at the foot of the center console.
It’s pretty effective. The rest of the switchgear, thankfully, has a tactile click. When your fingers start to feel numb, this is a great tool to have on hand.
The metal vents are all brand new. They appear to be significantly more expensive than the ones seen in a typical Aston Martin.
A beautiful detail is the leather-strapped storage pocket. The thick alloy fixtures and fittings, which give the automobile a truly military-tough sense inside, are also heavy metals.
And if there isn’t a windshield, there isn’t one; the tiny aero screens on this prototype V12 Speedster are optional extras from Aston Martin dealers.
Without invoking a slew of certification standards and regulations, Aston couldn’t put anything there that even remotely resembled a windscreen.
The infotainment system is made up of reheated Mercedes leftovers with an Aston skin on top.
That’s not a bad thing; the click-wheel-operated system is easier to use than the latest Mercedes touchscreen, albeit the visuals are old, and the cockpit spar blocks a portion of the screen.
You won’t need the navigation because you’ll only be making short loops in this thing for fun, and even a CIA-trained bloodhound wouldn’t be able to hear the Bluetooth phone connection above parking speed.
There is a boot underneath the rear buttresses, which any passing scoundrel can see directly into via the glass humps.

The twin-turbo V-12 in the V12 Speedster produces 690 horsepower, 25 less than the DBS Superleggera, but enough to propel the 3,858-pound Barchetta to 60 mph ( 99.7 kmph) in 3.5 seconds, according to Aston Martin.
However, due to the smaller and lighter DB11 transmission, torque output was limited to 556 lb-ft rather than the 664 lb-ft that the engine produces in DBS tune.
The Speedster’s V-12 has been tweaked to produce a smoother, more linear power delivery while having slightly less power and significantly less torque than the DBS.
However, It delivered a fast rush of torque that immediately flattened out, making the car difficult to operate on hilly roads.
Tobias Moers, the new Aston CEO, who spent years heading Mercedes-AMG and is no stranger to managing speedy and powerful automobiles, thought the engine was a little too eager at low revs.
Although the power delivery is smoother in the lower and mid-range, a few full-throttle runs in Sport mode from low speed in second and third gear indicate that Aston’s twin-turbo V-12 remains a beast from 4000 rpm up.
As the rear 305/30 21-inch Pirelli PZeros struggle for grip, the traction control light strobes.
The rush of acceleration at the top end is addictive, made even more so by the fact that there’s nothing between you and the oncoming countryside, the roaring slipstream almost drowning out the engine’s top-end snarl.
In addition to the revised engine mapping, the eight-speed automatic transmission has been programmed to deliver smoother upshifts in manual and automatic modes.
Some performance car manufacturers break from the trend to add artificial shift-shock to make inexperienced drivers feel something when they switch to a sportier drive mode.
The 2022 Aston Martin V12 Speedster makes you grin when driven at eight-tenths over a curvy road with the engine and suspension in Sport mode and the eight-speed transmission manually shifting.
It performs better than you might anticipate as an automobile, but it doesn’t expect you to take it seriously.

You’ll need to put down at least £765,000 to purchase one of the 88 V12 Speedsters being built.
That’s much money compared to Aston’s other Volante models.
However, it’s a fraction of the price of a Ferrari Monza or a McLaren Elva.
Aston Martin has revealed the car in a blue-grey color scheme inspired by fighter planes.

Aston Martin has a solid history of crafting odd things, from the hyper-tracky Vulcan and gorgeous One-77 to the wild Cygnet V8.
The Speedster is an outlier in the mix, being both focused and hardcore while being curiously mild and comfortable to drive.
However, you don’t get much engine noise on board. However, this machine is such a sensory overload that you’ll indeed have plenty to think about while you howl around.
